What Is Multimedia
By the word multimedia we mean many media. By adding some extra hardware and software in a compute system, multimedia allows to perform multiple functions including audio, video, animation, graphics etc. along with the general functions of the computer. In this way, when several works are performed at a time in a computer it is called multimedia. Multimedia helps in communicating through computer by combining all the media of expressing human attitude and feelings such as text, audio, video, animation, graphics, interactive computing etc. in the computer screen. At last it can be concluded that multimedia is a computer based system of communication that includes text, audio, video, animation, graphics, interactive computing etc. In this system, these media can be used independently or jointly in expressing any human feeling or any message.

Today multimedia has brought audio and videoconference. These computer and electronic based communication creates dynamism in business, social, political, economic and international activities.

Multimedia has made possible online shopping staying at home or office. Today any one can collect price list of any product, can place order for the product and can pay the bill through the electronic communication and banking system.

Today books, journals, magazines etc. are published in multimedia based CD Rom as like as paperback. In CD Rom, various still and moving pictures, sounds etc. can be enclosed along with the text. Therefore, complex or abstract matters become more easy and livelier. Moreover, a CD Rom can easily contain a book having thousands of pages. Today millions of books of library are taking their place in CD Rom leaving racks made of wood and iron.
Medicare:
Uses of multimedia are also seen in Medicare services. Today advices of doctors can be received even staying at home with the help of multimedia based electronic communication. Besides this, multimedia is also used in diagnosing the diseases and prescribing medicines.

Researchers require different kinds of information to conduct their research and development works. Internet plays a vital role in obtaining the necessary information. By searching the internet the researchers can gather their required information and make successful research.
Virtual Reality:
Virtual reality is a technology which allows a user to interact with computer-simulated environment. The simulated environment can be similar to the real world. For example, simulation for pilot or combat or surgery training. This simulated environment can also differ significantly from reality, as in virtual reality games. This virtual reality is actually based on multimedia bound technology.
